Design Engineers Names Jared Ramthun Principal

Design Engineers is thrilled to announce the promotion of Jared Ramthun to Principal and the newest member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Jared joins the firm’s existing leadership in a collective effort to promote the firm’s core focus of enabling our clients to do great things by engineering transformative building systems.
Since joining Design Engineers in 2009, Jared has played a significant role in the firm’s evolution and expansion. In 2018, he relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, to establish the company’s first branch office. One year later, he became the firm’s youngest Associate Principal. In 2023, his leadership in strengthening client relationships and expanding market presence led to his promotion as Design Engineers’ first dedicated Business Development Manager.
“There are so many great reasons for this promotion,” says Managing Principal Dwight Schumm. “Jared truly embodies our core values of proactive, collaborative, and tenacious, and above all, our mindset of being driven for the greater good. His genuine passion for doing whatever is in the best interest of our clients, his colleagues, and the company impacts every project, every decision, and every interaction.”
Jared is a senior mechanical engineer and registered Professional Engineer (PE) with 20 years of industry experience. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and an active member of his local ASHRAE chapter.
Jared’s project experience spans a wide range of markets, including Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education, Industrial, K–12 Education, Military, Municipal, Religious, and Senior Living facilities. Jared spearheaded the mechanical design for the University of Iowa’s Voxman School of Music, an ASHRAE Regional Technology Award winner, as well as the LEED Platinum Cedar Rapids Public Library. More recently, he has played a key role in the HVAC replacement project at the UW–La Crosse’s historic Graff Hall and is currently the lead mechanical engineer for the all-electric UW-Oshkosh Polk Library and the renovation of UW-Madison’s historic Music Hall.
Ever since my senior year of high school, I knew I wanted to design mechanical systems for buildings…but I also had a desire to lead.
“Ever since my senior year of high school, I knew I wanted to design mechanical systems for buildings and Design Engineers has been the perfect place for me to contribute to the built environment through innovative and impactful design,” says Jared. “But I also had a desire to lead and I obtained an MBA with that in mind. Relocating to start and grow the Madison Office has been the biggest challenge of my career, but one I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I’m ready to take the next step into overall firm leadership and help develop the next generation of leaders for the company.”
