Seventy strong and with offices in Cedar Rapids and Madison, Wisconsin, this third office strengthens Design Engineers’ ability to foster talent and strengthen its relationships with clients across Iowa and the Midwest.

Set to open June 20th, the new office will be led by Associate Principal and Senior Mechanical Engineer Adam Bunnell, PE. With nearly 20 years of industry experience and living in Polk City since 2020, Adam has played a key role in enhancing the company’s services in central Iowa.

Enabling our clients. Fostering our talent.

The new District Building #7, which houses Design Engineers’ Des Moines office, is a community-focused building located in the heart of Ankeny’s bustling Business District at Prairie Trail.

“We’ve seen incredible growth at DE over the past several years and one of the themes we’ve embraced is to ‘grow and do better,’” says Adam. “Establishing a dedicated presence in central Iowa allows us to further enable our client architects and building owners to do great things.”

Bunnell also notes the opportunity to tap into the talent pool at Iowa State University to fuel the company’s expansion. “We were very intentional with our location. Ankeny is the sweet spot between ISU students and many of our client architects in downtown Des Moines.”

A long-standing presence now has a home.

For years, Design Engineers has had a presence in central Iowa, starting in 1990 with a small elevator replacement for the VA Medical Center. Since then, Design Engineers has contributed to landmark and award-winning projects such as the Wellebe Headquarters, Ames High School, Ankeny Kirkendall Library, and has had a growing presence on the Iowa State University campus, including the new LEED Gold Therkildsen Industrial Engineering Building. The firm is currently engaged in new construction and renovation projects including the Des Moines Fire Station No. 4, the Des Moines Reichardt Community Recreation Center, and ISU Black Engineering Hall, as well as the Goldfinch Lofts – poised to be the first Zero Carbon Certified federal housing tax credit project in the country.

This existing presence and access to talent and opportunities fuels our excitement for the journey ahead.
