Jared Ramthun Leads Tour of University of Iowa Voxman Music Building
On September 2nd, Jared Ramthun lead a tour of the University of Iowa Voxman Music Building construction site for the Iowa Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Both Dwight Schumm and Jared spoke about the major energy-efficient strategies used throughout the building including heat recovery chillers (chiller-heaters), displacement ventilation, dual-wheel energy recovery, and chilled beams. Of particular interest for the group of energy engineers was the building’s anticipated LEED Gold rating and overall energy performance, which is expected to save 46% over a code base building (LEED 2009). Jared and Dwight also presented the sub-metering plan for the facility’s various energy streams. These sub-meters will allow The University of Iowa to implement ongoing measurement and verification to maintain the energy performance of the building. Design Engineers was excited to have the opportunity to share this design with AEE, which will make the Voxman Music Building one of the most efficient on campus.
