Emergency Care Unit / Maternal Child Renovation, Mercy Hospital, Iowa City

This project included an addition to and complete renovation of the Emergency Care Unit and Maternal Child Department at Mercy Hospital.  The building remained occupied on a continuous basis and both departments remained in operation for the duration of the project.  The project was constructed in multiple phases.

The scope of HVAC work included the replacement of three existing air handling systems with two new air handling systems, along with modifications to the existing hot water heating system as required to serve the new system.  The phased nature of the construction process required the installation of both temporary bypass ducts for both the existing air handling units and the new and temporary piping as required to maintain the existing reverse return piping system in operation until it was completely removed from service.

The electrical scope of work included all new lighting, power and nurse call systems.

Fire safety components of the project include modifications to the existing sprinkler system and addressable fire alarm system serving the renovated space.
